FLV Player 2008 is a flash video player for Windows. It uses MPlayer to play videos, which is supposed to support some formats in addition to FLV. However, FLV files are the only ones that I found to be playable using this tool. FLV Player 2008 is a very basic player. To be honest, I haven't found a single aspect of this application that I liked; not even one. And I can tell you quite a bit about what I really don't like.
Firstly, the user interface is horrible. It is not intuitive at all. The main window shows an "import" button and at the bottom of the screen there is an ad. When you click "import", a window appears, in which you select the video file you want to play. After that, an MPlayer window pop-up with your video. The FLV Player 2008 screen shows keyboard shortcuts to control the video. The only way to control the application is with the keyboard. The controls are clear, and they all work. But the video window is not very responsive. Another thing that I don't like is that this application won't tell you that a file type or format isn't supported, it will just try to play it, with horrendous results.
Perhaps, it is the bad wording in the application design, or the ads, or the constant requests to install software during installation, but I didn't like this player a bit. There are other tools that work better and have much cleaner interfaces and better file support.
- It is free
- It only plays FLV files and not that well
- It has ads
